The new book of Reza Aslan ,The Iranian American writer and scholar of religion and literature is a matter of debate in American media.some question author's religion, who happens to be a muslim ,but evangelical Christian in the past. The others are questioning his teaching position in creative writing of university of California at Riverside ,but they ignore his background and academic degree in religion. That makes his scholarship in the examination of Jesus, and rethinking and reviewing of his life new, original and realistic. If there is a challenge ,it has been going on in academia for centuries, according to him in his interview with Fox News, hosted by Lauren Green. He also mentions in his introduction to Zealot:"Scholars tend to see the jesus they want to see.Too often they see themselves-their own reflections-in the image of Jesus they have constructed."
This could be a reason for controversial reviews of Zealots and its authors opinions as well as religious background .Although Aslan like other historian believes in educated guess ,his book on Jesus of Nazareth seems to be worth to read.
Of Reza Aslan's non religious books ,the notable is Tablet and Pen,Literary Landscapes from the Modern Middle East, from A Words without Borders Anthology series

I like this book not only for its coverage of the scattered samples of the vast literary heritage of the region, but also
this was the last book I bought from Borders Bookstore before the end of their unfortunate business
