ANDREW SARRIS:THE AUTHOR IS DEAD

ANDREW SARRIS (1928-2012),dies at 83.
The controversialist espoused autor theory in 1960.He first announced in the Bohemian newspaper,The Village Voice:
"Hitchcock is the most daring avant-garde filmmaker in american today."
Sarris then championed introducing the so called foreign movies by writing on auteur-filmmakers like Francois Truffaut,Jean-Luc Goddard ,Antonioni,Ingmar Bergman,Akira Kurosawa, extending his discussion on American Authors such as Orson wells and John Ford,or even Martin Scorcese ,but probably missing Charlie Chaplin.
In 1967 Roland Barth announced the death of author ,As it imposes limits on the text,But Sarris probably unaware of this or unattentive, continued his argument, favoring some directors and disliking others. He missed some of his subjects. We miss him,as well.
Andrew Sarris book ,The American Cinema remains one of the classics on the subject
