ALEXANDER CALDER
22 JULY 1898,Laughton,Philadelphia,Pa
11 November 1976,New york City

Calder is the inventor and innovator of mobile ,or kinetic sculptures
moving by air currents or a machine
As a young artist ,he befriended Leger,Miro,Arp and Mondrian
He also worked on Stabiles, jewelries and wire portraits, considered three dimensions drawinf
If Rodin is a part of universal stabile sculptures,
Calder expands his universe by motion,
as we can see this in Ben Franklin Parkway of Philadelphia

Calder's stabiles in steel are mostly painted black and escape the light
but some are covered by bright colors
He used bent wire to portrait celebrities including himself
in Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man
seen here on U S Stamps
