May 15 /25th of Ordibehesht is the birthday of Hakim Abolghasem Mansur Ferdosi , the great poet of SHAHNAMA/Shahnameh or The Book of Kings,a long lasting Persian national epic.
Ferdosi was born circa 329 Hejri Ghamari/935in the village of BAZH,near TUS of Khorasan Province,located in NW of Iran.He started writing Shahnameh at age 40 by 369 H.G./975 A.D.
and spent more than 30 years of his life to complete it by 401/1007 . Date of his death is recorded between 1020 to 1026.
In 1313/1934 during Reza Shah ,Iran celebrated the millennium of Ferdosi and again in 1369/1990 THE MILLENNIUM OF SHAHNAMEH was announced as year of Ferdosi and Shahnameh by UNESCO and an international congress for Ferdosi and his epic masterpiece was held in Iran.
