WE ARE IN WINE COUNTRY,THAT IS STENBECK COUNTRY,AS WELL.GRAPES ARE ENJOYING THE SUN,IN ORDER TO SAVE IT IN A BOTTLE,UNDER A TIGHT CORK,AND CHANGE LIVES.WE PASS SANTA MARIA,GUADELUPE AND APPROACHING SAN LUIS OBISPO,WITHIN 250 MILES OF SAN FRANCISCO,WITH BEARS AND DEERS.

IN PASO ROBLES,WE PASS THE FARMS.NOW WE KNOW WHERE ALL THESE HERBS AND FRUITS ARE COMING FROM.AND THE WINE THAT WAS NOT THAT MUCH KNOWN UNTIL LATE 80'S AND EARLY 90'S,WHEN MEDIA REALIZED THE GOOD HEALTHY MEDITERRANEAN LIFE IS FOR DRINKING 1-2-3 GLASSES OF WINE EVERYDAY.AND IT WORKS,LIKE A REAL EAU DE VIE.

THE ROAD RORS AGAINST OUR CAR,IN FRONT OF US.I COULD NOT HEAR MUCH BUT SAM CLAIMS THERE IS AN EXTRA NOISE IN THE MIDDLE OF EMPTINESS.WE STOPPED IN KING CITY WITH ONE OF THE RARE ENGLISH NAMES.AND NOW IT IS ONLY 50 MILES TO SALINAS OF JOHN STEINBECK.SAM DISCOVERS A PLASTIC WINDOW LOOSELY HANGING BELOW THE ENGINE AND HE RETIRES IT TO THE BACK COMPARTMENT.WE GAS IN AND WE MOVE FORWARD.

AT FIVE O'CLOCK AFTER 7&A HALF HOUR,WE ARE IN SALINAS.THE SUNSET IN PACIFIC AND MONTERREY IS INVITING US TO 15 M0RE MILES WESTWARD.A MAD SHOWER WORKED LIKE A GOOD MASSAGE AND WE GOT READY FOR MONTERY'S FISHERMAN'S WHARF AND MARINA WITH THE SUN LEAVING AND THE MOON ARRIVING.

THERE WERE ARTWORKS OF THE MOUNTAINS IN BLUE,BROWN AND GREEN ON THE WALL.THERE WERE FIELDS OF GREEN,BLUE AND BROWN ON THE WALL.AND JOHN IN JOHN STREETWAS WAITING.I CUT THE 5 DOLLAR CUPON OFF THE LOCAL MAGAZINE,THE BEST OF MONTEREY 2009-2010 AND WAS SO PROUD OF SALINAS WHOARE SO PROUD OF SALINAS BOY OF LITERATURE.HAVING SAID THAT,ONE HAS TO REMEMBER STEIBECKS HAD HIS DETRACTORS AND BOOK BURNERS AT HIS TIME TOO AND THAT'S WHY HE CHOSE SELF EXILE IN LONG ISLAND,NEW YORK.WHAT A NICE PLACE TO GO ON EXILE,BY THE WAY!

MONTEREY BAY AND PENINSULA WITH MONTEREY NORTH,CANNERY ROW AND PACIFIC GROVE IN NEIGHBORHOOD,AND CARMEL IN THE SOUTH,ALL ARE A BIG CANTINA FOR JOURNEYMEN.

I CONTINUE MAPPING SOLEILAND BY GOING AROUND BIG CANTINA VALLEYS,VINEYARDS AND VILLAGES,WITH ROADS AND RIVERS,SUN AND WAVES.

THE MOON IS IN FULL.I TASTE THE PEOPLES FOOD AND TALK TO THEM AND THIS IS "STRAVAGANZA" A LA MONTEREY.

SOLEDAD IS BEING ON THE ROAD,PASSING SOLEDAD AND REACHING SOLEDAD TO REALIZE THAT WHEN YOU ARE ON THE ROAD ,YOU ARE NOT ALONE AND YOU'RE HAVING A LOT A FUN.
ONCE IN SAG HARBOR OF LONG ISLAND,NEW YORK,I WAS LOOKING FOR STENBECK'S HOUSE AND I NOTICE THIS MAN,WELL DRESSESED AND TIED UP ON HIS NECK,SEEMS TO BE WILLING TO HELP.I WENT TO HIM AND ASKED:WHERE IS JOHN STEINBECK'S HOUSE?
HE LOOKED AT ME AND SAID:YOU KNOW THAT HE IS DEAD?
I LEFT THIS FUNNY OLD MAN AND CONTINUED MY EFFORTS,TO COME TO CONCLUSION THAT THE WRITER'S HOUSE IS NOW A PRIVATE HOUSE AND NOT A PLACE FOR VISITORS.
BUT STEINBECK'S MUSEUM IN HIS HOMETWN OF SAQLINAS WAS WELL PREPARED FOR VISITORSTHE NICE LADY WAS TALKING TO US ABOUT UPS AND DOWNS OF STEINBECK AND AT ONE POINT MENTIONED THAT JOHN WAS A HIPSTER AND POTSTER.SHE ALSO SHOWED US PAINTINGS OF CASTLE ROCKS AS DESIGNED IN STEINBECK,S BOOK,CANNERY ROW.

STEINBECK WHO INVENTED A LANGUAGE IN CHILDHOOD,WROTE POEMS TOO...
"CANNERY ROW IN MONTEREY,CALIFORNIA IS A POEM,A STINK,A GRATING NOISE,A QUALITY OF LIGHT, A TONE,A HABIT,A NOSTALGIA, ADREAM"AND THE BELOVED BOY OF SALINAS ,WHOSE BOOKS TWICE WERE BURNT IN HIS HOMETOWN,ALSO COULD BE DEFINED WITH ALL THESE.
WE SAW PLENTY OF HIM ,HIS LANDS AND FARMS,HIS CAR,HIS DOG CHARLEY AND HIS
QUIXOTISH ROCINANTE.HIS BOOKS FROM HANDWRITING TO PRINTED.HIS NOBLE PRIZE CEREMONY,HIS MEDAL OF FREEDOM GIVEN BY PRESIDENT KENNEDY,HIS PULITZER PRIZE AND OTHER HONORS.
THE OLD MAN WAS SITTING AT THE DOOR TO SAY GOODBYE AND INVITING US TO HIS HOUSE FOR LUNCH.
OUTSIDE THERE WAS A HUMONGOUS MURAL OF STEINBECK'S COUNTRY WITH ALL THE HIILS AND FARMS AND RANCHES,COLLAGED WITH HIS OTHER GREAT COUNTRY,HIS BOOKS,AND I LEAVE TALKING ABOUT THESE IN DETAILS,

in no. 123 central avenue,a few block away from no.1 Main Street we sat around steinbeck's table in his birth place and childhood house, and margaret, our hostess suggested veggy losania and added you won't miss meat with that.
it was september 4,and sam's birthday and what a nice place to have luncheon.
from the window i saw this old volks wagon, bug, beetle, punch buggy, and i thought it belongs to john, but it did not handle to start the engine and it wasn't in black color either.we visited steinbeck's best cellar, different than his best sellers, and a gift shop.

IN STEINBECK COUNTRY,WE CAME TO PEBBLE BEACH,NOT TO COMPETE WITH TIGER WOOD IN THE FINE SCATTERED 18 HOLE GOLF COURSES,BUT TO PAY 9.25 DOLLARS TO ENTER AND FOLLOW THE PRESTIGIOUS SIGN THAT SAID:
17 MILES DRIVE.
SAM BELIEVED THAT WAS THE SPEED LIMIT,AS HIS UNCLE MANUCHEHR SUGGESTED.I DON'T KNOW THAT.IT COULD HAVE BEEN THE PRICE OF SOME THE CHEAPER VILLAS IN MILLIONS, OR THE LENGHT OF THEIR OWNERS COMFORT ZONE OF HAPPY LIFE.OR THE AMOUNT OF NATURAL AND MAN MADE BEAUTIES YOU CAN SEE IN A BLINK.,LIKE THIS ONE CALLED GHOST TREE,STANDING SHAMELESSLY RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD.THESE ASSUMPTIONS MIGHT NEED A TIME FOR RESEARCH AND I WAS MORE IN THE MOOD OF STENBECK,RATHER.
FROM THE BIG PARK WITH HOUSES AND CROOKED ROAD WE REACHED THE "PACIFICO"WITH WHITE PEBBLE BEACH AND DREAM HOUSE ROW,AND WE TRIED TO KEEP OUR HANDS ABOVE WATER..
BIRD ROCK ,A MARINE SANCTUARY,WAS NOT ONLY A BIRD HOUSE BUT THE HOUSE OF SEA OTTERS,SEALS,SEA LIONS,PELICANS,SQUIRRELS,DIFFERENT THAN TREE SQ.,AND OTHER GUYS.THEY ALL HAD FUN TO SHARE THE SUN,AND NOT MUCH WORK OR TRAFFICS.

in carmel
Zen says:
you can't be lonely
at the sea,you are
too alone.
That's what we became when our journeymate went for shopping and we were wandering in carmel.
We felt lonely. Then we looked for Clint.
Where is Clint? i asked this lady about my age.
He is buisy making another oscar worthy movie.
Who is running carmel now? I asked.
He never did.We the people do it.see! there is no traffic lights and everybody respecting everybody.
She was right.

PARVIZ DARIUSH,SIRUS TAHBAZ AND OTHERS,
ALTHOUGH THEY ARE ALL GONE BY NOW,
BUT STILL JOHN STEINBECK IS A PERSIAN WRITER.
AND WE WENT TO SEE HIS COUNTRY.
