* و جوانی:

EZRA POUND,THE MOST MODERN OF MODERNS-2

NOVEMBER 1,1972
EZRA POND PASSED OUR WORLD
HE ALWAYS HAS A BERTH IN OUR WORD
Any anthology of American poetry starts with Walt Withman's poems, who 20 years before birth of Robert Frost published his LEAVES OF GRASS,and remained as a symbol of innovation and freedom, with his influence on poets of Americas and Europe.Withman,in fact ,was Ezra Pound before Ezra Pound.
Ezra Pound too,as poet, translator, critic, editor, counselor, correspondent, manifesto writer, movement maker and "persona" has a perrennial presence in these anthology to leave his signature on anglo-american poetry and literature. He wrote:
THE AGE DEMANDED AN IMAGE
OF ITS ACCELERATED GRIMMAGE
SOMETHING FOR THE MODERN STAGE
NOT AT ANY RATE AN ATTIC GRACE/
zamaneh tasviri mi khast
az gham e modam
chizi baraye sahneh haye no
va nah penhanye posht e bam

TREES DIE AND DREAM REMAINS
NOT LOVE BUT THAT LOVE FLOWS FROM IT
EX AMINO
AND CANNOT ERGO DELIGHT IN ITSELF
BUT ONLY IN THE LOVE FLOWING FROM IT
from:CANTOS

Self vs.Mask in Persona is searched. This is the book of Pound's collected poems, other than The Cantos,as his modern odyssey, while the title is taken from Dante's Divine Comedy.
Ezra Pound spent part of his incredible energy, in other languages and literatures ,as Japaneses and Chinese Poetry, and like Haiku. This so called CULTURE POET also editted the works of other poets and writers, such as T.S.ELIOT,JAMES JOYCE,ROBERT FROST.He continued his dialogue with Dr,William Carlos Williams and influenced the creativity of next generation,as well as  publishers.
We always wonder if in any other culture and language,a poet and writer reached to this level of creativity and embraced other's works with an open mind and authentic modern vision.

BUT IN THE PALE NIGHT THE SMALL LAMPS FLOAT SEAWARD

HAIKU de JORGE LUIS BORGES HAIKU:Spanish-English

jorge luis borger, author of poetry and prose, man of the books and biblioteques, loved khayyam and the  robaiyat.in fact, his father, jorge borges ,translated robaiyat khayyam into spanish, through edaward fitzgerald's english version.
this could probably expain the tendency of borges to write shorter haiku poems and haikuesque stories.

BORGES.A POSTMODERNIST MODERNIST

jorge luis borges, whose "life is a quotqtion"
http://www.faramarzsoleimani.blogspot.com/
آیا باغ بود یا باغ یک رویا بود

JORGE LUIS BORGES,
poet,writer,story teller,metaficyionalist,critic of Spanish,Portuguese,French,Anglo-Saxon,Old Norse
b.Buenos Aires,Argentina,Aug24,1899
d.june 14,1986,Geneva,Switzerland

Like Yush of Nima,Shiraz of Hafez and Sadi,Chile of Neruda,Andalusia of Lorca,St.Lucia of Derek Walcot,Dublin of Joyce,Paterson of Wlliam Carlos Williams,Prague of Kafka and...,Buenos Aires belongs to Borges. He did not like Peron and his Argentine version of fascism, similar to Franco,s.He disliked leftist poets like Neruda and lorca who travelled to Argentina in 1930's,but still praised them, also with magic realism of Marquez. He defended Videla,And visited another version of Videla,Peron and Franco in Chile,to say kind words about Pinochet who presented literary award to Borges.By these controversies,Borges denied himself a Nobel Prize in Literature.
Jorge Luis Borges who started publishing poetry and literary journals since age 22,continued writing through short stories and fictions/ficciones.He loved Iran and Persian culture, and in particular fascinated by Omar Khayyam(1048-1131).Interstingly,his father,The , Jorge Borges Translated Robaiyat Khayyam into spanish.
and Borges himself published: El enigma de Edward Fitzgerald ,in Otras inquisiciones,1952.Also:
In praise of shadow/Elogio de sombra,1969
Ajedres/Chess,in El hacedor/Maker,1960
He Once asked:
THERE WAS A GARDEN OR GARDEN WAS A DREAM?
The themes of Iran/persia and the east, together with tigers, swords and knife fighters, labyrinths and libraries, solitary horsemen and daredevils, mirrors, compassand chess are always present tthrough his works,to make along with dreams and nightmares, theory and translation.Speaking of translation, borges believes that originals are always unfaithful to translationsThe Tower of Babel also fascinates him,as is a passage to talk of translation and liguistics,as well.
Borges in his last piece(1986) wrote:
"The Tower of Babel, which is  one of his ruses God laid flat on the plain, continues  to project its shadow over the imagination of men...It is not impossible that the termTO BABBLE in English and BABBLN
in German drive from BABEL ,and not from the first sounds articulated by children."
As a twofold imagination,Borges quotes a bishop:"The myth of the Tower had its origin in the wonder felt by the nomadic tribes when they saw the temples of Babylon."
Borges ,the author of Buenos Aires Fever(poems,1923),Poems(2010)Ficciones(1944 and 2010),The Aleph(1949),Labyrinths(1962),El informe de Brodie/Dr Brodie's Report(1970, also directed the series
Biblioteca di Babele,an anthology of fantastical tales in thirty volumes.
Jorge Luis Borges ,who married his secretay,Maria Kodman, in april 1986,died of liver cancer in June 1986,in Geneva. On literature,he once said:
"In the order of literature...there is no act that is not the coronation of an infinite series of causes and the source of an infinite series of effects."

LLANTO POR LORCA

faramarz soleimani, the poet and writer by faramarz soleimani, the artist,if you can call him by these lines&dots
1
In a theatre of war and hatred
you were dragged to the hills
for paseo in the olive grove.
A shot broke out
at the sky of
Fuente Grande,
and you were grounded with your words
bleeding,
still.
Seville was bleeding.
Grenada was bleeding.
Guernica was bleeding
with all Espana
in heart.
2
No illusions
but mute sound of bullets
in spring.
I rim
your head
with blue lights
and butterflies...

JOSEPH BRODSKY's B-D

JOSEPH BRODSKY,Major Russian Poet and Essayist
b. May 24,1940,Leningrad
d.Jan 28,1996,New York City
Joseph Brodsky,a major Russian poet was smeared in 1964 in a trial for "social parasitism" by social parasites in power. He won the Nobel Prize in literature,in 1987 for :
"all - embracing authorship imbued with clarity of thought and poetic intensity."
Although a political activist,Brodsky's poetry is " language and ,presumably literature."
They "are more more ancient and inevitable, more durable than any form of social organization. The revulsion, irony,or indifference often expressed by literature toward the state is essentially the reaction of the permanent-better yet,the infinite-against the temporary ,against the finite."
Brodsky's final works are:
A Part of Speech,poetry collection,1980
History of 20th Century,1986
To urania,1988
Less Than One,essays collection,1986

*ROMAN ELEGIES:
XII
Lean over.I'll whisper something to you:I am
grateful for everything : for the chicken cartilage
and for the chirr of scissors already cutting
out the void for me-for it is your hem.
Doesn't matter if it is pitch-black,doesn't matter if
it holds nothing:no ovals,no limbs to count.
The more invisible something is
the more certain it's been around
and the more obviously it's everywhere. You
were the first to whom all this happened, were you?
For a nail holding something one would divide by two-
were it not for remainders-there is no gentler quarry.
I was in Rome.I was flooded by light. The way
a splinter can onlty dream about.
Golden coins on the retina are to stay-
enough to last one through the whole blackout.
