*a note on language: I am a strong advocate on transliteration and phonetic,when it comes to write Persian or Farsi.also Parsi words in english,and or any other greco-roman languages.I do not think letters like q,w,x,or even y can replace persian letters,unless in arbiterary use.
for example:
q for gh
x for kh
also compositions like ee(=i),oo(=o or u),ei(=i),aei(=ai),aw,ow,ou and so on
have no merit to replace persian letters or sound.
by this: Molana is correct
and mowlana,mawlana,maulana,mevlana is incorrect.

I believe that in Afghani-Parsi, aka Farsi e Dari, there is no V sound, the same as Arabic; however, like the Arabs they have only W sound. For example, they say Awwal, rather than Avval.
ReplyDeletePlease let me know if I am wrong.I wonder how the tajiks in Uzbekestan and Tajikestan pronounce it; V or W. I would go with the way they say it. After all, the people of Eastern part of the original greater Khorasan are the ones who created this language, didn't they?

ReplyDeleteIt is worth noting that in the Jewish Calendar, Sukkot ( plural for Sukka), is a Harvest festval for seven days that every year, almost coincides with our Mehregan; very much like Nowruz and the seven days festival of "Pessah" or Passover !

ReplyDeleteAs for a Latin Alphabet for Parsi language , it should be decided by an Academy of Language manned and directed by philologists, linguistics, and polymaths such as yourself, and not by individuals. Minor variations in the same language spoken in different areas of the world or even in the same country is not an anomaly, but a natural occurrence. Examples of this are the differences amongst British, American, Australian, and Eastern Indian Englishes, as well as the utterance variations of Parsi in different parts of Iran.
In addition to NATURAL geographical variations in any language, which must be accepted and cherished, other changes also occurred by the unwelcome intrusion of despotic and not-so-despotic governments. The best and indeed a very sad example is what happened to Turkish language: At the turn of twentieth century, some 112 years ago, the language spoken in Constantinople, Tabriz, and Baku was the same and the people these three areas represented would understand each other without difficulty. Then arrived, on the scenes, historic figures and forces such as Kemal Ataturk, Reza Shah the great, and the miserable Bolsheviks who unknowingly as well as deliberately poked their big intruding noses into the language and infiltrated it by new, bizzare, unfamiliar Turkish and then European words in Turkey, Persian words in the Greater Southern Azerbaijan, and Russian words in the occupied Northern Azerbaijan. In other words the Russians tried in Russianization of the language, and so did the Iranians in Persianization of it. The heart wrenching result is that the great people of these areas now understand one another only in 70% of times. Such a pity.
However, the different pronunciation of the same language in the above mentioned areas is something else and shows vast variations, and is quite natural, why? Because the European Turks are indeed faux Turks. They are not true descendants of Central Asia's marauding tribes, but the off-springs of the systematic rape of subjugated Roman women in the hands of Mehmet Fatih's aka Mohammad Fateh's soldiers who, in the year 1453, had opened and overrun the Roman Byzantine heart that was Constantinople, thus putting the seal of final termination of the mighty Roman Empior after a rule of 1526 years since its beginning by Emperor Augustine in the year 73BC. As a matter of fact, a Rashty Iranian, such as myself, is more Turkish, aka Turkic, than a Roman Turk of Turkey; ( My dear Ostaad Fraamaani; please no grinning; please wipe away that smirk on your face, please be good, okay? This is a serious business!)The result of this systematic centuries-old choreograhed rape is the modern Anatolian Turks who are much lighter and fairer skinned than their genuine Eastern variety; and that is the reason for them not being able to pronounce kh or gh, w, or Qaaf (Please forgive my wrong transliteration of your 'Qaf'again; ey ostaad e Aziz, I seem not to be able to behave, even in my old age of 76!) After all, except for Germans and to some lesser degree for the French, other Europeans too can not pronounce those sounds mentioned above.
I love the fact that European Turks, one century ago, and the Northern Azerbaijanis in 1991 at last switched to Latin alphabet. We, the second-time-around-Arab-sujugated Iranians, should have done the same decades ago. Perhaps we need another Reza Shah e Kabir, but a more refined, enlightened, and minus the flaws this time, to put our affairs in order again; how about that, Inshaallah?
