One may leave the argument about this matter of why smart artists are unable to outsmart alcohol and drugs,and in case of Hoffman and many others come up with a destroyed body and mind,and in many other cases with lost creativity and power of acting. What today can be mentioned is this whole happening is a loss. A loss for the artist and a loss for society who is in need of peace and love ,the real artist can provide. After Generation of Giants like Marlon Brando,Paul Newman , Peter O'Toole who went back to cave and disappeared , we need artists like him,not to mention Sean Penn and his peers,and we can not afford losing them one by one.Death to drugs and Overdose! Be smart silly boys and girls! Stay with us please . We need your mental and psychological protection in this gigantic wilderness.

GREAT GATSBY NOT OSCAR WORTHY

GREAT GATSBY 2013,not an Oscar worthy movie.

Acting is mediocre and slow despite all those shouting back and forth .

The production is very much Hollywoodesque to satisfy action thirsty audiance ,and because of that love scenes look pale,and close ups won't help.

Computer is playing a big role in this production to make it different with previous one, and still does not help.So if any credit probably goes to the long festivities and glowing partes,if not the music and somehow editing,to provide further excitement for today's cinema goers.

I am going back to read Scott Fitzgerald's novel again and watch Robert Redford and Mia Farrow once more .

Are oldies still goodies or we just think?!

Are computers a deviant catalyst in cinematography or we are just used to conventional movie making?

Is the time over for  grand literary works translating to cinema or we do not have to loose our patience and hope?

Is TCM shown on small screen in our living room preferred to expensive productions shown on silver screen of movie theatres?

And the band goes on...

Never give up on the seventh art!

A pure cinema is preferred to anything,even...!

ANDREW SARRIS:THE AUTHOR IS DEAD

ANDREW SARRIS (1928-2012),dies at 83.

The controversialist espoused autor theory in 1960.He first announced in the Bohemian newspaper,The Village Voice:

"Hitchcock is the most daring avant-garde filmmaker in american today."

Sarris then championed introducing the so called foreign movies by writing on auteur-filmmakers like Francois Truffaut,Jean-Luc Goddard ,Antonioni,Ingmar Bergman,Akira Kurosawa,extending his discussion on American Authors such as Orson wells and John Ford,or even Martin Scorcese ,but probably missing Charlie Chaplin.

In 1967 Roland Barth announced the death of author ,As it imposes limits on the text,But Sarris probably unaware of this or unattentive,continued his argument,favoring some directors and disliking others.He missed some of his subjects.We miss him,as well.

Andrew Sarris book ,The American Cinema remains one of the classics on the subject
