FRIDA KAHLO

VIVA LA VIDA.VIVA FRIDA
6 July 1907
13 July 1954
FRIDA is always remembered with her"agonized poetry on canvas",as Diego Rivera mentioned this in the movie Frida. She poured her real affections and life in the paintings, always being honest and truthful, and not hiding her from herself and from the others...
Frida's chaotic personal life with car accident and miscarriage, supplemented by on and off marriage and living with or separating from diego Rivera,at times to intimidate her,and the times bedridden  due to severe injuries, were both an inspiration and crippling.Indeed she started to become an artists during all these happenings and mishap. Her art, both modern and confessional became a unique medium during cultural blossoming of Mexico,to ad on and adjust with Mexicanism of early 20th century. On the other hand vitalized surrealism movement of this time entered her works through open windows.Dali ,Magritte and others are present in her forms and expressions, and especially guiding her to a series of naked and transparent self-portrait.Modernism and surrealism in Frida's oeuvres are other elements for her Feminism, also witnessed in the marginality and primitivity of her art.Artist is an icon not to be intimidated by surrounding forces, fame and fortune.Frida Kahlo was an icon who took this matter to her self taught art and her unique imagery with characteristic symbols and signatures.
Andre Breton believed Frida Kahlo was a surrealist.Frida herself thought she is a Mexican realist with the tradition of Mayas and Mexican folklores and their popular art.She could be both,or neither.Just Frida Kahlo. An artist with a strong will and overwhelming personality, seen through her works.
