POSTCARD FROM NOGUCHI IN LAGUNA ART MUSEUM

Noguchi's nature is ours.Our nature is Noguchi's.
We are all on the same page of nature with our landscapes, flora and fauna.--F.S.

"NOGUCHI is a fountain pouring forth sculptures.
These pieces [of Gemini G.E.L.] are his physical thoughts. They are rivulets, waves, ripples, spray, dribbles, splashings from the flow of works."
--M.McClure

Isamu Noguchi(1904 Los Angeles-1988New York City) in his productive life created sculptures, gardens, lighting designs and other artistic achievments. He did paintings, ceramics, architecture,as well.
Noguchi used steel, iron, bronze, aluminum, marble, balsawood, basalt, granite and other materials including water.
On creative process and his philosophy of art,he once said:
"Adversity is necessary."For him form in nature are alive and in return to  revive in his own forms.
Although Nogushi did not join any art movements but collaborated with dancers such as Martha Graham and Balancinine, and composers such as John Cage. His Museum in Long Island City,New york, houses a variety of his experiences in the art.
In Noguchi's California Scenario,The courage of imaginations appears in his garden and landscaping. The forest walk never hits the wall or rtires. It is always vivid and moving. It is always fluid albeit hidden under the sun, from waterfalls to cries, suggesting the vastness of desert and its diversity.Noguchi here is trying to bend all elements to new form and show their flexibility, not only in stone,as a living thing, but in land and its companying elements,as plants.Plants such as:barrel, beaver trail, tri cereus, aloe, palo verde, agave, ocotillo and   off course redwood, cactus, joshua tree,...And their blood:water.
Akari in Japanese is light as illumination, and the idea of weighlessness, and Noguchi employed it for lamp designs and lanterns, with rim woods and especially papers..In 1968 Noguchi represented United States in Venice Biennale with his light arts and the query of
WHAT IS SCULPTURE?
With the beginning of Noguchi Garden in New York, during 1980'sNoguchi worked more with metals. This project was called GEMINI G.E.L.,and considered short poems of the artist , pertaining to California.Juxtaposition of metals, here was used to suggest a three dimensional space,as well as surfaces ,to mimic landscapes, and shapes;CACTUS,ROCK,CLOUDS,MOUNTAIN and WAVE.
Noguchi again turns to the power of imagination in his forms and colors,as McClure pointed out:
"The surfaces resemble those of rocks in a stream. Each skin, epidermis, outer layer,is unique in pattern and texture." His light and shadow, and reflections in California Scenario also are reminiscent of Gemini Sculptures.
We wlked through Gardens ,fountains and stones with Noguchi,We walked with his lanterns and lights, and among his stainless steels and galvanized metals to enter his world, which is long lasting and asking for our imagination to contribute to his poetical moments and power, thanks to Laguna Art Museum,Laguna Beach,Orange county,California.
