For children of world war II,Dino de Laurentiis made Bitter Rice(1949),a movie of love,eroticism and hardship,featurng Sylvana Mangano,a model turned actress,who later maried Dino.
By this movie,Dino joined Italian Neorealism and ranked with directors and producers who were drawing post war Italia on their silver screen map.In fact obcession (1942)of Luchino Visconto,based on James Cain,s The Postman Rings a Bell Twice, was the first of this series,followed by
Vittorio de Sica's Children are watching us(1943),Shoeshine(1946),Bicycle thief(1948)
Roberto Rossellini"s Rome an open city(1945),Paisan (1946)
de Laurentiis also produced Fellini's La Strada and Nights of Cabiria,
and also Bergman's Serpent,s egg,Europa51 with Ingrid Bergman,war and peace
He collaborated with Carlo Ponti as well,and after building Dino Citta in Italy, joined Hollywood to continue his carrier.
Dino de Laurentiis who died in Beverly Hills,once said:
Making movies is all about instinct.Nobody taught Picasso how to paint...that comes from instinct and intuition.It comes from inside you.
